What is jojoba oil?
Contrary to what the name might suggest, jojoba oil is not an oil but a liquid wax extracted from the seeds of the jojoba bush. When the jojoba seeds are pressed, a wax-like liquid is created, half of which consists of oil. This jojoba oil has many valuable ingredients such as provitamin A, vitamin E and vitamin B6.
Jojoba oil: This is what the active ingredient can do for skin and hair
Due to its valuable ingredients, jojoba oil is a popular ingredient in cosmetic products for skin and hair. But it can also be used in its pure form.
Jojoba oil for the skin
Vitamin A is formed from the contained provitamin A , also known as beta carotene, which in turn is important for cell renewal. Since it protects the skin’s natural barrier, it is more resistant to bacteria. This can also help with bacterial infections like pimples.
If you want to prevent premature skin aging, you should also use jojoba oil. Because the contained vitamin E serves as protection against wrinkle formation due to its antioxidant properties. It stimulates collagen formation and improves skin elasticity. Vitamin B6 helps to regulate the skin’s sebum flow, which can also protect against skin impurities.
Jojoba oil is particularly suitable for dry and itchy skin , as the substance combines with the sebum and in this way increases the moisture content of the skin – due to the composition of the fatty acids contained, this happens without being greasy. The ingredient is particularly good in moisturizing facial care products, cleansing oil, make-up remover or anti-pimple products. It is also often used in remedies that help against stretch marks, calluses or scars.
Jojoba oil for hair
Jojoba oil is also beneficial for the hair – it moisturizes and provides care and shine without weighing it down. Care with jojoba oil is particularly recommended for dry and damaged hair , as it regulates the sebum production of the scalp without drying it out. This can also help with a dry and itchy scalp . Use jojoba oil in the form of a scalp mask or hair treatment. You don’t have to buy any toiletries here. For example, you can easily make a mask for the scalp yourself: heat a few tablespoons of the oil and massage it into the scalp. Wash out carefully after an exposure time of around 30 minutes.
You should pay attention to this when buying jojoba oil
Jojoba oil is best in its native form, as the valuable ingredients are available cold-pressed and it has a longer shelf life. In this form, it should be golden yellow in color. Since it is a natural product, the quality is also crucial – use organic quality oil whenever possible. If you store it in a dark, not too warm place, the oil will keep for up to a few years.
