How do pimples form?
Pimples develop in the sebaceous glands, which are located in the dermis and are more common in the T-zone of the face. They are primarily responsible for secreting sebum. This not only protects the skin from drying out, but also from pathogens and, to a certain extent, from chemicals. If there is increased sebum production, however, it can happen that a sebum gland becomes clogged – and blackheads develop. If this now becomes inflamed by bacteria , a painful pimple forms.
Typical causes of pimples can be stress, poor diet, certain medications, environmental factors and an unhealthy lifestyle. However, hereditary factors often also play an important role.

What is face mapping?
In Ayurveda healing arts and traditional Chinese medicine, the face can be divided into different zones. These zones provide information about health and well-being. In addition, the functioning of certain organs should be measured against it.
In our picture gallery you will find the different zones and what they mean for your health:
The upper forehead area
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the forehead is connected to the bladder and digestive system. Pimples on the upper forehead indicate that the body is having a hard time digesting and processing unhealthy foods.
Here’s what you can do about it
Avoid foods that are low in nutrients and high in fat and sugar, such as fast food or sweets. Instead, grab fiber, lots of water and tea, as well as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and protein. Sufficient liquid helps the organs to clean themselves and a high-fiber diet gets the digestion going again.
The lower forehead
According to Chinese medicine, the lower forehead is associated with the mind and heart. Pimples and blemishes above the eyebrows can be caused by stress, irregular sleep, poor blood circulation and depression.
Here’s what you can do about it
Try to sleep regularly and get used to a sleeping pattern. If stress is the cause, yoga and meditation can help . Or you can take some time for yourself every day to wind down and relax.
The eyebrows
Pimples between the eyebrows are liver related. Excessive fat and alcohol consumption are the most common triggers for pimples.
Here’s what you can do about it
To get rid of pimples between the eyebrows, you should reduce alcohol and fatty foods to relieve the liver. Artichokes, milk thistle and dandelion, as well as plenty of water support the liver in cleaning and regeneration.
The ears
In Chinese medicine, painful pimples on the ears are a sign of impaired kidney function, which is caused, for example, by a lack of fluid intake or too much salt and caffeine.
Here’s what you can do about it
Try to drink one liter per 20 kilos of body weight every day so that all metabolic processes in the body run smoothly. You can also fill your water balance with water-rich fruits and vegetables such as watermelons, cucumbers, strawberries or oranges.
The nose
Pimples on the nose indicate a problem with the pancreas. The pimples are caused when you often eat too spicy or too salty, or consume too much sugar.
Here’s what you can do about it
Try to reduce spicy, salty and hot foods. Instead of sweets, you prefer fruit, vegetables and nuts. Also drink enough water.
The upper cheek area
The upper cheek area is associated with the lungs in Chinese medicine. Impurities indicate that the lungs are working hard, for example from nicotine consumption or respiratory diseases.
Here’s what you can do about it
Smokers should cut back on their nicotine consumption or, ideally, stop altogether. Respiratory diseases, on the other hand, should always be treated by a doctor. Medications, warmth and inhalation support healing.
Left and right cheek
Pimples on the left cheek are more associated with the liver, while pimples on the right cheek are more associated with the lungs.
Here’s what you can do about it
Pimples in the two areas can be treated like pimples on the upper cheeks and eyebrows!
The mouth area
Pimples in the mouth area are a sign of a nutrient-poor diet and difficulties in the stomach to digest the food optimally.
Here’s what you can do about it
Change your diet gradually to a balanced diet. Cut down on spicy and fatty foods. Eat more nutrient-dense foods like fruits, vegetables, protein, fiber, whole grains, and healthy fats from nuts and oils.
The chin
In traditional Chinese medicine, pimples on the chin are associated with hormones. In the facial zone, skin blemishes in women can announce the period or also indicate hormonal changes, for example due to stress.
Here’s what you can do about it
Try to reduce stress and eat a healthy diet. To avoid severe fluctuations in homons, you should get enough sleep, drink enough water and maintain a normal weight. Crash dieting or being underweight can also contribute to hormonal imbalances.
