What happens if I don’t get the Covid vaccine

There have been some uncertainties with regard to the corona vaccination, especially since the short-term vaccination stop with the AstraZeneca vaccine. Some people do not want to be vaccinated with a certain vaccine, while others do not want to be vaccinated at all. But what happens if you refuse a corona vaccination?

Who receives a vaccination offer?

The federal government is sticking to its promise of wanting to offer every person in Germany a vaccination by the end of the summer. However, delays have occurred due to the short-term AstraZeneca vaccination freeze and ongoing uncertainty about the vaccine. Vaccination is currently done in a specific order as long as there is not enough vaccine available for everyone.

Can I choose the vaccine myself?

Many people are unsure about the AstraZeneca vaccine in particular. According to the Federal Ministry of Health, however, there is still no free choice of vaccine. The website of the Federal Ministry of Health states: “Due to the shortage of vaccines, the right to vaccination against the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 according to the CoronaImpfV still does not include the right to choose the vaccine from a specific manufacturer.”

Since March 31, the federal and state governments have decided that the vector vaccine AstraZenca should only be used in people between the ages of 60 and 69. The Standing Committee on Vaccination (STIKO) had previously issued a corresponding recommendation, as there had been a few cases of rare cerebral vein thrombosis in younger women.

Corona vaccination: what happens if you reject it?

Since there is no vaccination requirement in Germany, you can refuse a corona vaccination. If you wish to be vaccinated but not with the vaccine that was offered to you, you can decline the offer and get vaccinated with a different vaccine at a later date. The exact handling of the vaccinations and vaccination dates is a matter for the state. A spokeswoman for the Bavarian Ministry of Health, for example, told the Passauer Neue Presse that a person willing to be vaccinated would not drop out of the system of those to be vaccinated after the rejection of a specific vaccine. But she added: “But then he or she has to expect renewed waiting times.”

The state of Berlin announced that you can also be vaccinated at a later date if you are still unsure about the vaccination. It said: “In all likelihood, the vaccination will then be carried out by the general practitioner in regular operation. Please also note the currently applicable regulations and instructions.”
