In times of the corona virus, we have to observe hygiene rules by keeping our distance from people, wearing mouth and nose protection in public spaces and washing our hands regularly. But even apart from these hygiene measures, we should regularly clean or even disinfect a few things in our everyday life. These include, above all, objects that we touch frequently and on which a particularly large number of germs and viruses cavort:
- The mobile phone and the house phone
- doorknobs and the bell
- The remote control
- door handles and knobs
- light switch
- computer mouse and keyboard

Containing germs and viruses at home
Apart from everyday objects, the apartment should also be kept clean in general with the right measures. If the apartment is cleaned with the usual cleaning agents , dirt and more than 90 percent of the surface germs are removed:
- Use common cleaners instead of antibacterial cleaners or disinfectants. They offer no further advantages and only make sense in exceptional cases and on the advice of a doctor or the health department in the household.
- Use different rags for the bathroom, toilet and kitchen and change them often. Let them dry well after use. Then wash them at at least 60° Celsius.
How long does the coronavirus survive on surfaces?
According to an Australian study, the corona virus can survive on smooth surfaces for up to 28 days. The novel virus is therefore considered to be robust. However, according to the Rober Koch Institute , there have not yet been any cases in which it has been proven that COVID-19 was transmitted to people through contact with contaminated objects. In principle, however, smear infections cannot be ruled out.
Germ-free: wash clothes properly
To safely remove viruses, bacteria, germs and fungi from laundry, you should wash dishcloths, cleaning cloths, washcloths, bed linen, towels and underwear at at least 60° Celsius with a heavy-duty detergent that contains bleach. Low washing temperatures are usually sufficient for normal outerwear. An additional hygiene rinser is also not necessary.
Proper ventilation during the corona pandemic
The number of germs can increase in closed rooms because the pathogens remain in the air in fine droplets. Now that the heating season is over, it should be aired regularly and several times a day for a few minutes. In spring and summer, when there is no longer heating, the windows can stay open longer again.
