Unexpected Reasons for Headaches

Headaches can really spoil our day – especially if we don’t know what caused them. We tell you 5 unexpected reasons for headaches.

Whether throbbing or stinging, on the temples or forehead – headaches massively restrict our everyday life. Anyone who suffers from headaches more often will eventually know the cause of their symptoms. In some cases, however, there are very simple reasons behind the pain attacks, which can be avoided by making small adjustments in everyday life.

5 Unexpected Reasons for Headaches

1. Stress

Stress can really wreak havoc on our body. No wonder, then, that it is also one of the main triggers for headaches. A long-term stressful everyday life can throw the body’s own pain defense system out of balance, which means that messenger substances are increasingly released in the brain. The result: the blood vessels dilate and inflammatory reactions occur. With relaxation exercises such as yoga or progressive muscle relaxation, you can bring deceleration back into your everyday life.

2. Too much sleep

Not only too little, but also too much sleep can have a negative effect on the head. This is where stress comes into play! Pain attacks and migraine attacks often occur when you are sleeping a lot and relaxing after a particularly stressful phase. The reason for this is the fluctuating cortisol level, to which the body reacts with pain.

3. Too much perfume

It doesn’t matter whether you sprayed yourself with it or your co-worker is pulling off an intense cloud of fragrance – too much perfume can also contribute to giving you a headache. Some ingredients such as benzyl alcohol, which is also found in room fresheners, are to blame. A fragrance allergy can also trigger the painful symptoms.

4. Teeth grinding

Disorders and diseases of the teeth and chewing apparatus can lead to tension and thus to headaches. Of course, this also applies to nocturnal teeth grinding ! In this case it is worth going to the dentist. Because even at an older age, such misalignments can still be corrected – for example with an adapted bite splint that relieves the jaw joint.

5. Skipping breakfast

The third most common cause of headaches? Is actually skipping breakfast! In order to start the day well, the body needs energy – and it usually gets it from breakfast. However, if this important meal is missing, your body will alert you in the form of migraines that it is high time for an energy supply again.
