Tips to keep your foot healthy

Painful inflammation of the tendons on the sole of the foot often occurs, until a heel spur develops. However, there is a lot that can be done about it.

Short becomes long

Shortened tendons are often responsible for foot problems. They can be easily avoided and eliminated through targeted stretching. Stretching the tendons on the soles of the feet is ideal: Sit on a soft, firm surface (e.g. carpet) and pull the toes of the affected foot towards the shinbone with your fingers (you can also bend the leg and place it on the other one). Hold the stretch for ten seconds. If you already have problems, repeat the exercise three times a day after getting up. One stretch a day is enough to prevent this.

Medicine – Here’s how

The ash from Iceland’s Hekla volcano – or homeopathic medicines made from it – have been found to be useful in treating wear and tear and inflammatory pain in the joints and bones, among other things. They also help with heel pain – eg heel spurs, which are found in almost every tenth adult.
Product : “Hekla lava”, as tablets in D6 / globules in D12, approx. 9.50/8.10 euros (pharmacy).

Please note

It is best to let homeopathic remedies melt under the tongue, at least half an hour before meals. Usual dosage: 1 tablet or 5 globules 3 times a day. In acute cases, 1 tablet or 5 globules every 30 minutes, max. 6 times a day.

Nutrition – Here’s how

Inflammatory processes lead to excess acidity in the body, which is balanced out with alkaline foods: eg vegetables such as cucumbers, tomatoes and sprouts, but also fruits such as limes and avocados, tofu, soybeans, almonds and olive oil. Drinking a lot also helps with deacidification: still mineral water, herbal tea, heavily diluted fruit spritzers with no added sugar.

Please note

Avoid consuming too much protein-rich foods: meat, cheese and eggs. White flour products and sugar , alcohol and caffeine- containing beverages also have an overly acidic effect.

Complementary therapy – how it works

Orthopedic insoles can relieve the foot tendons and, in combination with an anti -inflammatory painkiller, eliminate the inflammation. Shock wave therapy, which is applied three times at weekly intervals, helps around 80 percent of patients. Always good: cool the foot with a gel pad or massage the arch of the foot with a cold soda can.

Please note

Many experts advise against cortisone injections in the tendons involved. Although they lead to rapid pain reduction, they are not a permanent solution and can even damage the tendons, making the problem worse.

Expert – Here’s how

“The long days now offer an opportunity to regain physical momentum. However, this is often not possible without injuries: Active athletes often complain about pain in their heels, for example. Fortunately, homeopathy has the right remedy at hand. It has a gentle effect and supports the body in recovering on its own,” emphasizes Dr. Markus Wiesenauer, specialist in general medicine/homeopathy.

Please note

“The heart and circulatory system, but also muscles, connective tissue and joints need time to adapt to new sporting challenges. Therefore, the following applies to any healthy sport: start moderately, but persevere regularly.”
