loosen up
Firmly contract your facial muscles by forming a kissable mouth. Hold this tension for a few seconds, don’t forget to breathe! And then relax all muscles again.
Consciously relax
Do you feel the same way: do you frown, clench your jaw? The area around our eyes becomes tense with tension and we forget to blink. Consciously release the tension – and smile once, please!
roller coaster
Imagine a figure eight lying down in front of your inner eye and follow this figure eight with movements of your eyes and the tip of your nose. Rotate about 20 laps. With this exercise you not only relax your eyes, but also your neck muscles.
Focus
Extend your arms horizontally in front of your body and hold both thumbs vertically, two centimeters apart. Now look at your thumbs for a while – this will calm the optic nerve.
Pamper your eyes
An extract of the medicinal plant eyebright relieves irritation. Then place cotton pads soaked in cold water on the eyelids for about 15 minutes and relax. Also helps against swelling in the eye area.
Massage for people who wear glasses
Pinch the bridge of your nose with your thumb and middle finger and place your index finger between your eyebrows. Now massage the area with light, circular movements of three fingers for 10 to 20 seconds. This exercise is also good for people who don’t wear glasses.[bild|3right]
How to protect your eyes in summer
This is what sunglasses must be able to do:
They should block UV rays, stickers with UV 400 or the CE seal indicate the appropriate lenses. The safest thing to do is to ask questions. Do not choose glasses that are too small, ophthalmologists recommend the all-round protection of the puck-the-housefly models. According to studies, rays that penetrate from the side also greatly reduce the protective power of the sunglasses.
Tip for contact lens wearers:
Always clean your lenses with special cleaning agents, even when you are on vacation. It is best to wear disposable lenses in the pool and in the sea, which you throw away after swimming. Otherwise, a high germ density can quickly lead to eye infections.
Interview: Protect your eyes
We wanted to know more about it and asked Doctor med. Riad Khaireddin, ophthalmologist, just a question.
Tolfioow: What happens when I look into the blazing sun?
dr Khaireddin: It’s very harmful, even with sunglasses. This causes a kind of sunburn on the retina. In the worst case, a cataract can also develop.
How can I tell if I have damaged my eyes?
If we accidentally glance at the sun, we briefly see what is known as an afterimage, such as the color violet. See a doctor if this afterimage persists.
Does this happen often?
Unfortunately yes, for example when you look directly at the sun during a romantic sunset on holiday.
Why are the eyes often dry or watery?
Both have the same cause: too little fat in the tear fluid – because it evaporates too quickly. This phenomenon is triggered by ozone smog, air containing allergens, air conditioning or strong UV radiation. In some people, the body reacts and produces more fluid, in others it does not. Then sunglasses, a lot of drinking and artificial tears from the pharmacy will help.
And if your eyes itch?
Then it is probably an allergy – have it checked by a doctor.
