1. Redirect the movement
Whenever you feel the urge to touch your face, try to simply redirect the movement: instead, simply touch another part of your body, such as your upper arm or put your hands in your pockets.
2. Distract the hands
Give your hands something different to do so they are distracted and not constantly wandering towards your face. A crumple ball can work wonders here!
3. Fold hands together
If you’re not using your hands, try folding them up to keep them away from your face.
4. Practice not touching your face
Deliberately take five minutes and practice sitting very still without touching. In this way you create awareness of individual touches and you have the feeling that you can better control habits.
5. Cream hands
Due to the many washing and disinfecting hands, it is important to apply lotion to your hands right now. Once your hands have been creamed, you will notice the pleasant scent of the cream as soon as you touch your face. So you can counteract the movement faster and better.
6. Eliminate disruptive factors
Sometimes it’s not just habit that keeps us touching our faces, but a disruptive factor, like slipping glasses or flying hair. Eliminating these disruptive factors is easy: If hair on your face bothers you, simply tie it together with a ponytail. If your glasses keep slipping up and down your nose, you might want to consider contact lenses.
