Tips for a wrinkle-free face

According to surveys, about every third woman can imagine a wrinkle treatment. But many shy away from an operation. Tolfioow provides information about methods that are effective and sometimes gentle, and names the advantages and disadvantages.

Botox

Botulinum toxin is a protein – and one of the strongest toxins in the world. It was originally used heavily diluted to treat muscle cramps. It was found that wrinkles were smoothed out as a side effect. A very strong dilution is used for this purpose today: the doctor injects only one hundredth of the amount used in orthopedics into the deepest layer of skin or the muscle.

What can it do?
After a Botox injection, the muscles are less able to contract. As a result, expression lines can be treated particularly well with Botox, for example frown lines, crow’s feet or forehead wrinkles. The effect lasts about six months. dr Eveline Urselmann: “A positive side effect: Studies indicate that Botox wrinkle treatments also help against depression.”

Risks and side effects
If the dose is too high, there is a risk of a mask-like appearance. In addition, Italian researchers have found in experiments that Botox migrates from the injection site to the brain in laboratory rats – when they inject extremely high doses. In humans, this effect has not been observed in more than 30 years of medicinal use.

Insider tip
Dr. Ulrike Poliza: “It’s better to use small amounts of Botox per session and keep the intervals between the individual sessions short. This creates a continuous effect without ‘active’ and ‘passive’ phases.”

Costs
For moderately pronounced wrinkles around 400 euros. Insist on an Allergan product. This is the only provider in Germany that works without animal testing.

Filler

The term filler includes a variety of filling materials. dr medical Ulrike Poliza: “Hyaluronic acid, for example, is a good choice, it is biodegradable and occurs naturally in the skin . This minimizes the risk of an allergic reaction.”

What can it do?
Over the years, the body breaks down the subcutaneous fatty tissue and the skeleton on the face. This creates, for example, tear troughs and nasolabial folds. These can be padded with fillers, and the cheek area can be modeled. The result lasts up to a year and a half.

Risks and side effects
Occasionally, short-term swelling can occur, which sometimes hardens under the skin. In extremely rare cases, these hardenings last for a few months. The filler treatment has the strongest and most visible effect of the procedures presented here. This treatment also carries the greatest risk of not looking like you later on.

Insider tip
Dr. Eveline Urselmann: “A modern procedure for correcting the nasolabial fold consists of not injecting the filler directly into the fold, but along the cheekbone. The nasolabial fold is only tightened, the result looks more natural.”

Costs
Depending on the number of areas to be treated. Filler in the nasolabial fold costs about 350 euros, modeling of the cheekbone about 500 euros.

Needling

Microneedling serves as a minimally invasive procedure for skin refinement and rejuvenation. Tiny channels are created using many small needles attached to a needle roller or pin. Active ingredient solutions, for example with hyaluronic acid or amino acids, can penetrate deep into the skin through these channels .

What can it do?
The mechanical activation of collagen production and the improvement in blood circulation alone make the skin pores visibly smaller and reduce fine lines and creases, for example under the eyes. Depending on the choice of active ingredient that is massaged into the skin, the treatment can plump up the skin or lighten pigment spots.

Risks and side effects
A temporary, even redness and a feeling of tension like after sunburn are part of this procedure. Nevertheless, needling is considered a very gentle method. You are also in good hands in the hands of an experienced needling beautician.

Insider tip
Dr. Ulrike Poliza: “Anyone who wants a boost of freshness for their skin likes this procedure. Nothing is injected, the active ingredients are just gently massaged in.”

Costs
For a good result, five applications at weekly intervals are necessary. Approx. 100 euros per appointment.

Peeling

Basically, doctors distinguish three types: superficial, medium-deep and deep peelings. dr Ulrike Poliza: “The superficial peeling is an option for gentle skin rejuvenation. If you have very pronounced wrinkles, you are
well advised to use a medium-deep peeling with 35 percent trichloroacetic acid.” Deep peelings are only performed if there is a medical indication (scars, burns).

What can it do?
With medium-deep peeling, the acid penetrates into the dermis. This smoothes superficial wrinkles, visibly refines the complexion and also reduces acne scars and age spots.
A superficial peeling with 5 to 15 percent fruit acid only loosens the calluses – nevertheless the skin becomes smoother and looks fresher. The effect lasts for up to a year, depending on the condition of the skin and lifestyle.

Risks and side effects
There are hardly any risks with superficial peelings, which is why even good beauticians can carry out the treatment. Avoid sunbathing for a few days afterwards. Always place medium-deep peelings in the dark season and in the hands of a very experienced doctor.

Insider tip
Dr. Eveline Urselmann: “As a gentle but effective method, I recommend a cure of six superficial peelings per year, each in autumn. The result is similar to that of a medium-deep peel, but the side effects and price are lower.”

Costs
Superficial peeling: approx. 60 euros per appointment. Medium-deep peeling: approx. 700 euros, one appointment is usually sufficient.

Laser

This treatment creates hundreds of microscopic pillars of heat in the skin. Between these specifically heated areas of skin are untreated skin cells, from which rapid healing and thus regeneration emanate.

What can it do?
Due to the intentional injury to the skin, fresh collagen fibers are formed and the tissue is renewed. The complexion is refined and tightened. Areas of application: wrinkles, acne scars, pigment disorders and stretch marks. With a healthy lifestyle, the effect lasts for a long time.

Risks and side effects
A laser penetrates much deeper into the skin than a superficial peeling or needling. Redness and a feeling of tightness can last for one to five days after the treatment. Temporary swelling is also possible. It is essential to schedule laser treatments in the dark season to prevent the formation of dark pigment spots.

Insider tip
Dr. Ulrike Poliza: “Particularly pronounced creases under the eyes can be effectively treated with the so-called Fraxel laser.”

Costs
Depending on the area to be treated, the costs range from 600 to 1000 euros.

Mesotherapie

Many small injections of low-dose Botox or diluted hyaluronic acid are made in the middle (meso) layer of the skin. This feels similar to acupuncture, which is also active in the middle layer of the skin.

What can it do?
Mesobotox and meso-hyaluronic acid (Mesoglow) cushion the top two layers of skin. This reduces wrinkles and the skin’s elasticity increases. The second important effect is the activation of collagen regeneration and thus the increase in skin elasticity.

Risks and side effects
With meso-hyaluronic acid – not with mesobotox – there are basically many small wheals that dissolve within one to three days. In both procedures, it is important that the doctor only injects superficially and does not inadvertently hit a muscle.

Insider tip
Dr. Eveline Urselmann: “Anyone who is still unsure whether Botox or fillers are something for them can gently try out their effects here” – thanks to the low dose and shallow injection depth.

Costs
Mesobotox costs about 300 euros, the result lasts up to six months. Mesoglow costs around 400 euros and lasts up to nine months.
