NOT ONLY GOOD FOR THE HEART – Mediterranean diet keeps kidneys fit
If you want to protect your body’s most important filters from clogging, you should keep the Mediterranean holiday cuisine at home. An additional evaluation of the American DASH study (“Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension”) showed that people who eat a lot of fruit, vegetables , fish and nuts but little red meat and sweetened drinks suffer less often of kidney stones. Eric N. Tayler and his team at the Maine Medical Center in Portland examined the 24-hour urine of nearly 3,500 DASH participants – and found more urine and more citrate in those who ate like Mediterranean diets. Both keep the “cleaners” fit longer, according to the researchers, who suspect that the Mediterranean diet also has other kidney protectors.
GRAIN INTOLERANCE – New vaccination calms the immune system
It’s just three tiny protein building blocks. But they cause one in 500 Germans to get severe complaints, e.g. B. eats bread. That’s what Australian researchers who studied the grain protein gluten found out. A biotech company in Melbourne is already using the new findings and has developed the “Nexvax2” vaccine, which enables hyposensitization similar to that of hay fever. If it passes the following clinical tests, it could be approved in a few years.
BREAST CANCER THERAPY – First cash register pays chemo test
The so-called Femtelle test clarifies whether women with breast cancer still need chemotherapy after surgery and radiation: It detects the proteins uPA and PAI-1. An additional “chemo” only makes sense if the values are elevated. Nevertheless, those affected had to pay the 150 to 200 euros for the test themselves. Until now! The health insurance company hkk started in November and has been covering the costs for its policyholders ever since. Hopefully other health insurance companies will follow this example.
