They are wonderful companions throughout the Christmas season, their aromas caress our souls. But in frankincense, myrrh and other biblical plants and fruits there are also amazing beauty powers.
Frankincense – a resin with many talents
Frankincense is used for inner purification and is said to stimulate spirituality. At Catholic masses and processions, the air is impregnated with it. The warm, spicy, sometimes slightly leathery aroma is also found in sensual fragrances – and frankincense extract in creams for sensitive and mature skin due to its anti-inflammatory and smoothing effect .
Myrrh – sedative for body and soul
The smoke of the slightly earthy or sweet-spiced resin of the myrrh bush is said to induce peace and harmony and has been used as a remedy since time immemorial. Today, myrrh also unfolds its calming, balancing effect in care oils.
Gold – also precious for the skin
The Three Wise Men also paid homage to the newborn Jesus with a gift of gold. Today, the precious metal is more valuable than ever – also for the skin: It is said to improve the supply of nutrients to the cells and improve elasticity, rid the skin of toxins and give it more radiance. Gold pigments reflect the light and give the complexion a golden shimmer.
Pomegranate – the symbol with a practical effect It is one of the seven sacred plants of Israel: Because the pomegranate (Punica granatum
) contains a lot of seeds, it has become a symbol of fertility, and because of its appearance it is also a symbol of beauty. Rightly so from a researcher’s point of view: The seed oil contains a phytohormone and antioxidant substances that prevent wrinkles, as well as punicic acid – a rare, polyunsaturated fatty acid that protects and smoothes our skin .
Fig – praised be what makes smooth
Where fig trees blossomed, there was promised (fertile) land. Therefore, the fruit was considered sacred. Its fresh, tart aroma is intoxicating, but what is even more important is that it is full of proteins and minerals. The skin also benefits from this: figs moisturize, nourish and smooth.
Rose of Jericho – the miracle of water from the desert
She comes from Israel and Jordan, Mary is said to have blessed her on her flight from Nazareth. When there is a drought, the plant twirls for kilometers in the desert as a gray ball, and as soon as it rains, it unfolds green leaves. Her secret: the moisture binder trehalose, a sugar complex that is incorporated into moisturizing care.
