Summer Berries: Everything You Need to Know

Berries are refreshing, easily digestible and above all healthy. Find out what hidden beauty talents they have here!

Raspberries

Raspberries contain an incredible amount of vitamins and trace elements. They are said to have a draining effect, strengthen the immune system and stimulate the metabolism. Migraine sufferers should pick such a berry more often. They contain salicylic acid, a natural pain reliever.

But the raspberry can also be used in a variety of culinary ways. Whether as jam, hot with ice cream or in yoghurt – it tastes good in every variant. Because raspberries do not tolerate treatment with pesticides, they are unsprayed. Therefore, you can safely enjoy them unwashed. Because if you wash the sensitive berries anyway, you will quickly have mud in the sieve.

Fancy some ice cream? Try a homemade raspberry yoghurt ice cream ! It’s low in calories, so it’s perfect for guilt-free gorging!

Blackberries

Beautiful, smooth skin thanks to blackberries? That’s fine! The delicious blackberry was voted the best beauty food by scientists. It contains a high proportion of ellagic acid, a plant substance that protects the skin from UV rays and reduces the first signs of skin aging.
It also acts against diarrhea, styptic and expectorant. Almost an all-round talent among the berries.

Gooseberry

Do you prefer it sweet? Then grab the red gooseberry. If you prefer a fine, tart taste, you can use the dark varieties. The gooseberry contains silicon, an anti-cellulite active ingredient that tightens the connective tissue fibres. In addition, the gooseberry is also considered to be draining, cleanse the intestines and promotes hair growth.

The beauty aspect is not so important to you? Then try a gooseberry jam or grits. Both promise refreshment on a warm summer’s day.

Currant

Black or Red? For health or for beauty? The black currant scores with a high vitamin C content and thus clearly sets itself apart from its red competitors.

The bright red currants provide the body with plenty of potassium and thus have a draining effect. Both are of course also suitable for making jam or for a cake topping.

Sea Buckthorn Berry

The sea buckthorn berry is a silent but no less important competitor among the berries. The bright orange-red berry is often hidden in creams and thus accelerates wound healing, helps with burns and soothes sunburn.

It is also a welcome alternative from a cosmetic point of view. Sea buckthorn regenerates the skin and thus prevents small, annoying wrinkles. Products against acne or neurodermatitis are often made on the basis of sea buckthorn.

strawberry

The strawberry is considered the queen of berries in Central Europe. It contains a very high proportion of secondary plant substances and thereby alleviates the harmful effects of alcohol on the stomach. So at the next party, grab a strawberry daiquiri instead of the classic glass of Prosecco.

blueberry

Fit in the head with blueberries? Anthocyanidins are found in large amounts in blueberries and protect brain cells and improve thinking skills. If you buy the blue miracle in the supermarket, only the peel contains the active ingredients.

In the case of wild berries, on the other hand, the active ingredients are also in the pulp. Before eating, however, you should clean the berries thoroughly.

Cranberry

Cranberries turn out to be true energy donors. Expensive fitness bars are therefore a thing of the past. Sporty people should rather reach for the red fruits. According to a study by the Louisiana State of University, dried cranberries provide better digestible carbohydrates than special sports supplements.

The berry tastes raw and takes some getting used to. However, if you like it, you can strengthen your immune system with just a handful of berries a day. Antioxidants prevent disease-causing bacteria from settling in the mouth and prevent bladder infections.

elderberry

One of the most effective radical scavengers is hidden behind the elderberry. It protects against herpes and flu and, in combination with vitamin C, can make a cold more bearable.
Important: The berries must never be eaten raw – otherwise you will get a stomach ache. Always enjoy in the form of juice or jam.

Goji-Beere

In some countries it is known as the “happy fruit” and in others as the “anti-aging berry” – we are talking about the goji berry. It contains a lot of vitamin C, beta-carotene and B2 and thus increases our performance.

Traditionally, the Chinese use the dried goji berries to treat high blood pressure, eye problems and to strengthen the immune system. Their taste is reminiscent of cranberries and cherries.
