Part 1 Stretching: The Source of Relaxation

Hardly anything helps as effectively as the inner doctor. But we often ignore him. Our new series shows how you can integrate self-healing into everyday life and thus live healthier and longer.

We’re breaking a record again. According to the latest data from the Federal Statistical Office, every second woman in Germany will live to see her 85th birthday. And the number does not refer to newborns, but to today’s pensioners. Our life expectancy will probably continue to increase every year. The OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) estimates that there will be another seven years in the industrialized nations by 2060. Wonderful prospects: we gain more time in life, we can travel, pursue hobbies, get involved – as long as we stay healthy.Unfortunately, the number of chronically ill people with high blood pressure, diabetes or degenerative changes in the joints and back, which cause permanent complaints, is also increasing. We are constantly breaking records in this area as well. But so that it doesn’t get that far in the first place, we all have an effective means of bringing our body back into a healthy balance: the power of self-healing. It’s in you – and we’ve got a simple guide on how to use it.

Use self-healing

Because sometimes we all need a little nudge to get this amazing ability going, and a little persistence to keep it activated. How it works, Dr. Kurt Mosetter. He is a doctor, naturopath and looks after various sports clubs, including the handball team from HSV and the professional soccer team of the US national team. Through his work, he repeatedly experiences at first hand how the regeneration ability of the organism can be specifically improved. Four sources of power that you can easily tap into – for the sake of your health “I have found four essential sources of power for this,” says Dr. Mosetter: “The power source of mindfulness enables us to even perceive that we have a problem. And before pain or disturbances occur.” Example: If you sit at your desk for ten hours and listen to yourself, your body has long since said: “Hello! How about some exercise?” Then you should listen to your inner voice and walk or run briskly for half an hour. Both are ideal for a balanced metabolism as well as a remedy for all cardiovascular diseases.

discover sources of strength

Movement is therefore the second most important source of energy for activating self-healing. Another is diet. Fortunately, nowadays we can choose from an unbelievable variety of foods – and thus open up an enormous range of nutrients with all the important vitamins and minerals. One episode of our series will also focus on harnessing this energy source. The fourth source of power to activate self-healing is the conscious stretching of the muscles. dr Kurt Mosetter: “Stress and mental tension lead to postures that in turn lead to muscle shortening. For example, when we buckle in the truest sense of the word.” It’s high time to stretch and thereby relax the muscles. And because that is so good, our series starts with the so-called KiD training,

Expert interview on self-healing

VIATL was fortunate to work with Dr. Kurt Mosetter, head of the center for interdisciplinary therapies in Constance, to conduct an interview on the subject. Read for yourself.

Tolfioow: What role does stretching play in self-healing?

dr Kurt Mosetter, head of the center for interdisciplinary therapies in Constance
dr Mosetter: A big one, because it starts with an unconscious reaction. Muscles are faster than feelings. When we are frightened, first the eye ring muscle expands, then the jaw tenses, and only then does the circuitry in the brain react to recognize that we have been frightened. That can be measured. This primary defense reaction is controlled by the autonomic nervous system. So when you’re stressed, your muscles react unconsciously?
Yes, we don’t notice either if this happens continuously and even at night. For example when grinding your teeth. At some point it is then more practical for the nervous system to constantly cramp the muscles, the body gets used to it. Through regular stretching, we make an intelligent request to the brain. According to the motto: This level is also needed, please activate it again. The pain goes away and we feel good again.

Why do you include Far Eastern elements in the exercises?
Many Asian teachers see the main problem in muscular tension, for example with joint pain. In tai chi or yoga, muscle meridians are taken into account, which run through the whole body and correspond to the energy channels. The entire muscle chain is always stretched. These sports are perfect for healthy people. We were looking for a method that anyone can do, even on their own. What do I have to consider when training with pain?
It’s not easy at the beginning, you need patience and you need to go slowly to expand the scope. Often that only brings a millimeter a day, because it must not hurt. But I experience every day how effective little can be.Read the second part of our series “The 4 Powers of Self-Healing” here: [2] Mindfulness
