ANNA SCHULTE: People usually react to constant excessive demands according to one of four behavioral patterns. Each of these four patterns also contains a tip as to which type of deceleration is the right one in this case.

A typical individual reaction to being overwhelmed are mental reactions such as difficulty concentrating and narrowing of perception along the lines of: “This will definitely go wrong.” On the other hand, daily positive self-talk such as “everything will be fine” will help. Second, one observes emotional reactions such as dissatisfaction and imbalance. This is where sport helps to restore contact with body and soul. Thirdly, physical reactions such as sleep or menstrual disorders occur. Then relaxation techniques bring balance back. Fourth, behavioral reactions are possible, such as cravings or high coffee consumption. Several short breaks a day break this cycle.
