Recipes And Ingredients To Make Deodorant Naturally

Many deodorants contain synthetic additives. But are artificial ingredients really necessary to protect against sweat? There is another way, which is why we have collected the best recipes for homemade and natural deodorants. Have fun trying!

Critical ingredients such as alcohol and aluminum are often hidden in the deodorant. They work against armpit wetness and the smell of sweat, among other things. However, they can get into the body through small injuries to the skin, such as those caused by shaving the armpits. An increased intake of aluminum is said to have a harmful effect on our organism. Even if this statement has not yet been fully proven by studies, a reduction in aluminum intake cannot do any harm – and this is exactly where home -made cosmetics and, in this case , home-made deodorants come into play.

Make your own deodorant: you need to know that beforehand!

With homemade deodorants, you can choose the ingredients yourself. You can make your spray deodorant fragrance-free, chemical-free and add additional ingredients, such as essential fragrances, to your liking. In this way you can ensure that only harmless ingredients are in your cosmetics and get on your skin.

You can find empty containers for liquid or creamy deodorants, small spray bottles or pump spray containers in pharmacies, or you can use old cans that you should clean beforehand.

How long does homemade deodorant last?

As a rule of thumb, you can remember: the higher the water content, the shorter the shelf life. Your homemade deodorant will keep for about four to eight weeks. If you add a few extra drops of vitamin E to the warm mass, even longer! Vitamin E not only delays the rancidity of oils in your deodorant, but is also particularly nourishing for the skin and, as one of the strongest antioxidants, protects against environmental influences. You can also add a few squirts of lemon juice to your deodorant. The contained citric acid has an antibacterial effect and can extend the shelf life a little.

Also, strong alcohol has a preservative effect, is effective against bacteria and inhibits the growth of mold. However, the added alcohol can lead to intolerances such as skin irritation and dryness and is therefore only conditionally recommended. Store your antiperspirant in a cool, dark place, the refrigerator is best.

  • 45 g Natron
  • 10 grams of cocoa butter
  • 10 g healing earth

  • an empty deodorant stick

Preparation:

  1. In a bain-marie at low heat, melt the shea butter, coconut oil and cocoa butter.
  2. Mix all dry ingredients together. Gently stir in the previously melted fats.
  3. Now add the essential oils, then fill the mass into the empty deodorant stick and leave it to cool and harden in the refrigerator for about three hours.

  • 120 ml coconut oil
  • 1-2 tbsp baking soda (fine powder)
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • essential oils for fragrance (e.g. tea tree oil)

Make deodorant powder yourself

Deodorant powder is easy to use and works just like a deodorant cream or spray.

Ingredients:

  • 10 g of baking soda
  • 10 g fine clay
  • 16g starch
  • 8 g fine silica
  • 4 g Zinc PCA (zinc salt, reduces body odor and preserves the skin’s moisture. Available in pharmacies, among others)
  • 8 drops of essential oil, eg: lime oil
  • 8 drops of essential oil, eg: sage
  • a blender
  • an airtight container

Preparation:

  1. Mix all the ingredients except the clay with a blender, stir in the clay with the help of a wooden stick and fill the powder into an airtight container.
  2. You can apply the powder to the armpits with a cotton pad or a normal powder brush. It may take a while to really work if you’ve always used spray deodorant before. Residual traces of the normal deodorant are usually still on the tops despite washing. A deodorant stain remover or acid wash can help. For the acid wash, mix some detergent with a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and then wash as normal
