Save the end of the day

If you do sports regularly, you can better separate work and leisure time in your head and balance life more easily.

Thanks to the internet and mobile phones, we can now be reached anywhere. The downside: It is becoming increasingly difficult to separate work and leisure time. We read office e-mails at the weekend, call back when the boss texts me after work, or look at what’s new on Facebook over breakfast. The line between work and leisure is blurring.

“Not if you exercise,” says Professor Russell Clayton of Saint Leo University in Florida. For his study, he and his team interviewed 476 professionals. The result: people who exercise regularly are more likely to have the confidence to get their so-called work-life balance under control themselves and are significantly less stressed at work. “Exercise obviously helps to detach mentally from professional things,” explains Prof. Clayton. “We physically leave the office and don’t think about it anymore. On top of that, exercise helps us to be generally satisfied with ourselves.” And that is not everything: Who also on vacation– instead of making job phone calls – does sports, e.g. B. cycling, hiking or diving, feels much more relaxed towards the end. And such active vacationers find it much easier to have to go back to the office, shows a British survey with 2000 participants. Initiator Felix Rodel: “Exercise on vacation keeps your brain fit and ready to dive back into everyday work.”
