Delicious and healthy: Easter braid with pistachio and macadamia filling

Baking with healthy nuts

The stars of our yeast braid are macadamia nuts and pistachios. They are rich in healthy unsaturated fatty acids and pistachios in particular contain important B vitamins and minerals. In our yeast plait, the nuts are not only healthy, but also incredibly delicious!

ingredients

  • 1⁄4 l and 1 tbsp whole milk (3.5% fat)
  • 250 grams of liquid honey
  • 1 cube (42g) yeast
  • 750 g wheat flour (Type 550)
  • 3 eggs (size L)
  • 1 Jodsalz socket
  • 130 g macadamia nuts
  • 120g chopped pistachios
  • 2 teaspoons grated zest of 1 unwaxed lemon
  • Zimtpulver

preparation

  1. Warm the milk slightly. Add 150 g honey and yeast, dissolve both in it. Add flour, 2 eggs and salt. Knead the dough well for about 10 minutes. Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes until the dough has doubled in size.
  2. Finely chop macadamia nuts. Separate the remaining egg. Set the yolk aside. Mix the nuts, pistachios, remaining honey, egg white, lemon zest and 1 teaspoon cinnamon until you get a spreadable mixture.
  3. Roll out the dough thinly to the size of a tin, spread with the filling. Divide the sheet of dough lengthwise into three strips, roll up each strip from the long side. Braid the rolls, place on a greased baking sheet and leave to rise for another 30 minutes.
  4. Mix the egg yolk and 1 tbsp milk, brush the braid with it. Bake the braid at 180 degrees (convection: 160 degrees/gas stove: level 3) on the middle shelf for about 30 minutes.
