Oktoberfest knowledge

How much is a liter of beer? How many tents are there on the Theresienwiese? And how many people ensure that everything runs smoothly? We know the answers to all these questions!

What is the significance of the dirndl bow?

“Loop on the left, good luck.” – so goes an old saying. If you tie your bow on the left side, this means for men that you are single and therefore still available. So flirting is definitely allowed or even encouraged. Of course, the loop on the right means you’re taken.

How many employees work at the Wiesn?

The approximately 8,000 permanent employees and 5,000 temporary workers ensure the physical well-being at the Oktoberfest. In the approximately 148 catering establishments, work is in full swing and none of your wishes should be neglected with such a huge team.

How much does a beer cost in 2018?

A pint of beer at the Oktoberfest will cost you a lot of money. For around 11.50 euros you can enjoy Bavarian delights in one of the tents. But the traditional beer simply cannot be missing at the Wiesn.

How many types of beer are served at the Wiesn?

According to a long tradition, only Munich beer may be served in the Wiesn tents. Six breweries ensure the perfect hop juice. Thanks to a lot of experience and strict adherence to tradition, breweries such as Augustiner, Paulaner or Löwenbräu manage to convince visitors to the Wiesn with their product every year.

How many tents are there on the fairground?

With 16 large and 22 medium-sized companies, it is not exactly easy to decide where to have a snack or where to drink a beer. Maybe you’ll manage to feast your way through all of them at once.

How many rides provide entertainment?

With 163 shows, the Oktoberfest fun is not missing. There is something for everyone: from high-tech rides to nostalgic veterans. The swing boat or the mazes, for example, are long-established Wiesn facilities. With enough money in your wallet and, above all, with a large portion of fun, you can spend an exciting day at the Oktoberfest.

What is the name of the classic costume accessory?

Have you ever heard of a charivari? It is probably the most rustic costume accessory at the Wiesn. Nobody knows exactly where it originates from. However, it is clear that the many necklaces with different pendants have gradually become an important part of traditional costumes. Originally small hunting trophies adorned this chain. In the meantime, however, the Charivaris can also be embellished with coins or precious stones.
Very important: A Charivari should still not be sold, but given away – or even better – inherited. Like a charm bracelet, you can always add a little more to it over the years.
