How to Prepare Toothpaste at Home

This ingeniously simple toothpaste does not contain any harmful additives such as sodium laureth sulfate, colorings, flavorings or fluoride.

Peppermint hydrolate and mint oil have an antibacterial effect without damaging your oral flora. Birch sugar gives the toothpaste its usual sweet taste, but it is completely natural and, in contrast to other sugars, even has a caries-inhibiting effect.

ingredients

for approx. 50 g:

  • 2 tbsp peppermint hydrolate
  • 1 TL Birkenzucker (Xylit)
  • 4 tablespoons white or green clay
Essential Oils:
  • 1-2 drops of peppermint

preparation

  1. Put the hydrosol in a glass, add birch sugar and stir with the milk frother until the sugar has completely dissolved.
  2. Now pour in the clay and mix thoroughly. This should create a smooth mass.
  3. Finally, drizzle the peppermint oil onto a spoon and then stir it in as well.
  4. Pour the finished toothpaste into a pot that has been boiled or sterilized with alcohol.

Application & durability

  • Apply like normal toothpaste.
  • The product has a shelf life of at least three months.
  • Please only go into the pan with a dry toothbrush so that no water gets into the paste.
Tip: Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic oral hygiene practice. It is used before brushing your teeth and is said to help with detoxification as well as whitening your teeth. To do this, add 1 drop of peppermint oil to 1 tablespoon of coconut oil and put it in your mouth. Both oils have an antibacterial effect. Then simply swish the mixture around in your mouth as if rinsing your mouth for 10 minutes. Be sure to spit in the trash afterwards, as coconut oil can clog drains if it hardens again. Now brush your teeth as usual.
