Sex: How many calories do you burn during intercourse

Diet and exercise form the basis for weight loss. But it’s not just during workouts or endurance sports that the kilos tumble – we also burn calories through other activities such as sexual intercourse. We explain how many calories you burn during sex.

Sex is the most beautiful thing in the world and also quite healthy: regular sexual intercourse has a positive effect on both the psyche and the body. Endorphins, which are released in the process, can have a similar effect to painkillers, for example, and help with symptoms such as headaches . On top of that, sex reduces stress, contributes to better sleep quality and strengthens the immune system. And that’s not all – you can even burn calories with lovemaking.

Sex: How many calories do you burn during intercourse

But how many calories do you burn exactly during sex? It all depends on how much and how long you move during intercourse and how much you sweat. On average, the calorie consumption is between 85 and 250 calories per act of love and therefore counts as a small endurance unit. For example, in a study by the University of Québec, male subjects burned around 100 and female subjects burned around 70 calories per sex. In men, arousal can also stimulate the production of male hormones, which promote muscle growth and stimulate fat loss.

Can you lose weight with sex?

Unfortunately, although you actually burn calories during sex, this type of calorie burning is not suitable for losing weight. In contrast to real sports units, the calorie consumption is simply too low. For comparison, you can burn up to 800 calories with a HIIT workout. As a supplement, however, sexual intercourse is definitely recommended, if only because of the many health benefits. Incidentally, women burn the most calories in the cowgirl position and at the same time the abdomen, legs and buttocks are trained in this position.
