What are heat rashes?
The hotter it gets, the more we sweat. As a result, our sweat glands become clogged and we tend to have pimples and blemishes in the summer. Heat pimples – also known as heat rashes – increasingly appear where our sweat glands are located – i.e. on the face, on the décolleté, or on the armpits and are located on the upper layer of skin. Do not scratch or squeeze the clear to red pimples – this can cause painful inflammation.
What to do against heat rash?
Heat rash usually heals within a few days. If you want to get rid of blemishes faster, you should cool them down. The cold will relieve the itching and reduce the swelling. Place a cool compress or ice cubes wrapped in a cloth on the affected area. Use light creams with silica or zinc active ingredients to treat heat rash. Even a self-mixed skin lotion with apple cider vinegar works wonders. Mix about three tablespoons of the vinegar with a liter of water and apply to the affected area morning and night. Apple cider vinegar is known for its antibacterial properties and prevents pimples from becoming infected.
How can I prevent heat rash?
On hot days, let as much air as possible into your skin so that sweat can drain away more easily and the sweat glands don’t get clogged. Avoid makeup, foundation and powder on hot summer days. Instead, you can apply a tinted day cream or thinly cover redness with a concealer.
It is best to choose clothing made from breathable fabrics such as cotton, linen or viscose that absorb sweat well. Your clothes shouldn’t be too tight either. It is also helpful if you regularly wipe off the sweat with a clean handkerchief or towel.
Sunscreen protects against sunburn, but many products are often very greasy, which also promotes skin impurities and blocked glands. But in order not to do without sun protection, you should use products that are water-based. They are lighter, don’t leave a greasy film on the skin and sweat can drain off better.
