Migraine attacks
Almost every fifth adult has experienced at least one migraine attack , most of them women. So far there is no final clarity about the cause. A genetically determined hypersensitivity of the brain to stimuli presumably plays a role. Environmental influences, noise, hormone fluctuations, stress and also certain foods can be considered as “triggers” for the pain attacks.
Important routine
Get used to eating and drinking regularly (at least 2 liters a day) at the same time every day. If possible, don’t skip a meal.
Eat dinner early
You should finish your last meal of the day at least 2.5 hours before bedtime. But don’t rush, just take your time eating.
detective work
Find out what your body reacts to so painfully. A food diary helps with this. The “prime suspects” include foods containing tyramine and histamine: strawberries, tomatoes, chocolate, red wine, salami, long-aged cheeses. You should avoid what triggers attacks.
Balance blood sugar
Short-chain carbohydrates (e.g. white flour products, sugar ) cause blood sugar to rise quickly, but also quickly drop again. Avoid these fluctuations. The migraine develops when the blood sugar is low. Long-chain carbohydrates (e.g. whole grain products, vegetables) and protein, on the other hand, only cause a very slow reaction in blood sugar levels.
