Do I need special shoes for jogging in winter?
Anja R., Gütersloh
Not necessarily. Your usual running shoes will suffice on firm forest ground or gravel asphalt paths. On icy paths you can help yourself with “snow chains” that are slipped over the soles of your shoes. Do you jog regularly? Then it is worth investing in a cross shoe. With its profile, it supports grip on difficult terrain and is more weather-resistant.

Can I also throw my green waste on the compost in winter?
Annette T., Wiesbaden
Of course, this environmentally friendly waste separation makes sense all year round. In the winter, the rotting process on your compost pile will continue, just depending on the temperatures – much slower. Green waste from the garden does not accumulate as much in winter, but there is still vegetable and fruit waste from the kitchen. Mix them up with fall leaves, wilted bouquets and the like. Because even in winter it is important to mix the compostable waste well. It also makes sense to loosely cover the compost with a compost fleece (garden market), jute bags or straw to protect it from too much moisture and frost.
PSYCHOLOGY
My colleague has terrible bad breath. What’s the best way to talk to him about it?
Bianca S., Rostock
Most of the time, the person affected doesn’t even notice it. And hardly anyone dares to draw the attention of the other person to his intrusive breathing. Tactfully ask your colleague if he is in good health, he would sometimes smell from his mouth. Or offer him chewing gum while discreetly pointing out his problem. Dentists or family doctors can usually find and eliminate the cause of bad breath.
BEAUTY
What does a cold protection cream do for my skin ?
Marianne Z., Cologne
A high-fat cold protection cream contains little or no water, which could freeze on the skin and cause cold damage. You really don’t need that in the city. But if you have very sensitive skin, you can use it to protect your face during winter sports or when cycling in sub-zero temperatures when an icy headwind is blowing. But wash off the greasy cream as soon as you come into heated rooms later to prevent heat build-up on the skin.

After a year in the yoga class, I still have problems with many exercises. What am I doing wrong?
Gerlinde S., Menden
Learning body awareness, breathing techniques and mindfulness takes time. Nevertheless, ask your yoga teacher about possible reasons for your difficulties. This way she can adjust to you better and provide you with better support when practicing. However, if pain occurs, you should try another of the countless forms of yoga, each with a different focus.
