Better Aging: Fascial Fitness with Barbara Becker

Flexible, with an upright posture and a strong charisma: fitness icon Barbara Becker knows what keeps us young longer. That’s why she shows us her special exercises for fascia fitness, which you can easily incorporate into your sports routine without any major tools.

Better aging, better aging. Sounds a lot more relaxed and friendly than anti-aging, doesn’t it? That’s what Barbara Becker, fitness entrepreneur and mother of two adult sons, is all about. She contributes to this with her own training program. “I was in the mood for something new. Something that fits my current life better,” says the 54-year-old. Why fascia ? They give us strength, posture, flexibility and charisma – everything that keeps us fit, healthy and young. If the fascia play along and remain supple, this also saves us from tension and pain – also important for staying young longer.

What is fascia?

Fascia, the connective tissue-like, flexible structures that encase and stabilize all organs and our muscles, stretch through our body like a net. They are supplied with nutrients via the lymph channels. However, too little movement and one-sided strain bring the supply to a standstill, the fascia harden and stick together.

We adopt protective postures and tense up. It makes us look pretty old – and that’s how we feel. “A normal workout doesn’t help. The fasciae only become flexible again with special exercises,” says Barbara Becker. Your training is based on stretching, mobilization and regeneration. We can adapt it to our individual fitness level and make it more challenging with simple tricks, for example. You need ten minutes, comfortable clothing and a mat. Barbara Becker’s tip: “Stretch as long as you want beforehand. I started with two or three minutes. I now take more time for it because it feels so good.”
