Fall Foods: Seasonal Recipes for the Season

The golden autumn knows exactly how to enchant us. It offers us the last golden rays of sunshine of the year until it causes the trees to slowly lose their leaves. This special time of year makes it easier for us to start the cold winter. Autumn also has a lot to offer in culinary terms.

Great fruits and vegetables are celebrating their season and are just waiting to be enjoyed by us. We have summarized the healthiest foods with a few simple yet delicious recipes for you here.

Eating a healthy diet is especially important in the fall

When the temperatures are slowly falling again and we are gearing up for winter, a healthy diet and overall healthy lifestyle is particularly important. Due to the changeover from summer to autumn and winter, the body has to reorient itself. This costs energy, which in turn is then lacking in the immune system.

A healthy diet, which is mainly based on fruit and vegetables as well as whole grain products, helps you to balance the energy you need and to strengthen the immune system with valuable vitamins and nutrients. Above all, the seasonal fruits and vegetables in autumn provide important ingredients .

These foods are in season in the fall

In no other season is so much harvested as in autumn. This makes it all the easier to eat fresh and seasonal food. The following foods are in season in fall:

  • Root vegetables, such as carrots, celery, parsnips, radishes, beets, radishes, or swedes.
  • All sorts of pumpkins and sweet potatoes.
  • Cereals, such as rice, quinoa, oats or millet.
  • Beans, chickpeas, lentils or other legumes.
  • Mushrooms, such as button mushrooms, porcini mushrooms or chanterelles.
  • Chestnuts, walnuts or hazelnuts.
  • Spinach, cabbage, broccoli or arugula.
  • Different types of fruit, such as apples, plums, quinces, pears or cranberries.

You can get a detailed overview of all types of fruit and vegetables in so-called seasonal calendars .

Seasonal fruit and vegetables aren’t just good for your health

Eating seasonal produce in the fall not only has health benefits for you, it also has a positive impact on the environment. If you buy seasonal groceries in the supermarket, you don’t have to create artificial conditions for the fruit and vegetables to grow them in this country. On the other hand, it does not need to be imported from other countries.

This in turn has the advantage that less CO₂ is emitted into the air for transport and cultivation. So if you choose seasonal and regional foods, you are making a small contribution to climate protection.

Autumn tarte flambée

Autumn is also Tarte Flambee time. Especially in the somewhat darker season, we like to enjoy the famous specialty from Alsace in all possible variations. The original with bacon and onions is of course very classic and delicious . Tarte flambée is particularly good in autumn, for example with a delicious glass of Federweißer .

In addition to the original tarte flambée, similar to pizza , many different variations are possible, such as with pumpkin or other autumnal vegetables. Sweet flammkuchen are also very popular, for example in the combination of pear, walnut, goat’s cheese and honey.

Simple and delicious: oven vegetables

In principle, delicious oven-roasted vegetables are a real treat at any time of the year. Usually only the types of vegetables change depending on the season. For the fall we need the following ingredients, which should be enough for four servings:

  • ½ Hokkaido pumpkin
  • 2 Pastinaken
  • 2 carrots
  • 200g Mushrooms
  • 150 g soy yoghurt
  • 1 THE Tahini-Paste (Sesam-Paste)
  • 2 sprigs of rosemary
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • n. B. getrocknete Chiliflocken
  • Salt pepper

First, cut the vegetables and mushrooms into bite-sized pieces. Put it in a bowl and marinate it with salt, pepper, a few chilli flakes and olive oil. Also add the rosemary and crushed garlic. Leave the marinade on for about half an hour.

In the meantime, preheat the oven to about 180 degrees. Spread the vegetables on a baking sheet and put them in the oven for about 20 minutes. During this time, mix the yoghurt with the tahini paste and some salt.

When your oven vegetables are ready, arrange everything nicely on a plate and drizzle your yoghurt dip over it or just serve it as is. Serve with a fresh green salad.

Autumn time – soup time

Nothing warms us better from the inside in autumn than a healthy and rich soup. Thanks to the large selection of seasonal ingredients, the possibilities are endless here. How about a creamy pumpkin soup or a quick and healthy carrot soup? There is also a suitable insert and a delicious and, above all, healthy autumn and winter dish is conjured up.

Baked apple as a warm dessert

When it’s getting cold outside, the famous baked apple is a must. It is usually served with a delicious vanilla sauce. However, it will be a little healthier if you omit the sauce. For one apple you need:

  • 1 tart apple
  • 1 tbsp raisins
  • 1 tbsp apple juice
  • 10 g chopped almonds
  • ½ tbsp honey
  • 20 g marzipan
  • Some cinnamon

First soak the raisins in the apple juice for about an hour. Cut off the top of the apples and remove the core. Then mix the other ingredients in a bowl and then pour them into the apple. Put the lid back on and put the apple in a fireproof dish in a preheated oven at 200 degrees for about 25 minutes. Then arrange the apple with or without vanilla sauce on a plate.
