If your period starts every four weeks , you need reliable protection. Despite numerous alternatives such as tampons, menstrual cups and cloth pads, many women still rely on conventional pads. They are also often used in combination with the alternatives. But they all have to be able to do one thing: reliably absorb the blood and protect it safely. To this end, Ökotest examined commercially available pads. These are recommended!

Pads in the test: three get “very good”
Ökotest examined 25 commercially available pads and 25 panty liners for their protection, comfort and harmful substances. The test winners are:
- Facelle 16 Ultra pads, normal with Rossmann wings
- Facelle So free Ultra pads, normal with wings Bio by Rossmann
- Jessa Ultra pads Active Shape, normal with wings from DM
With the organic pads in particular, the superabsorber was omitted and instead used a cellulose core made of organic cotton, which is supposed to absorb the blood. However, this technology is not as effective at absorbing liquid, but is more environmentally friendly than the super absorbent core.
Panty liners in the test: four get “very good”
Ökotest also examined panty liners, which many women use to start and end their periods or as additional protection to tampons. Four panty liners were rated “very good” because they don’t get soaked, store a lot of liquid and the skin stays dry, and they stick well in the panty.
The test winners:
- Facelle So Free panty liners, normal from Rossmann
- Jessa panty liners Active Shape, normal from DM
- Satessa panty liners, normal, fragrance-free from Aldi Nord
- Sophie panty liners, normal, breathable from Netto
