Dental care tips for a healthy smile

Take control of your oral health – it will pay off.

1. Flushing Solution

Mouthwashes are not a substitute for brushing your teeth. Because plaque, the breeding ground for bacteria, they do not remove. In the case of acute inflammation or fungal infestation of the oral mucosa, disinfecting mouthwash (e.g. “Perio Aid”, available in pharmacies) can support healing.

2. Keep your distance

It is better to wait 30 to 60 minutes after eating before brushing your teeth. The acids contained in the food soften the tooth enamel. It takes some time until saliva production has buffered the acids and the protective tooth enamel is hard and ready to defend itself again.

3. Too hot, too cold, too sweet

Sensitive Teeth? The new toothbrush with extra soft bristles and integrated pain relief pen (“elmex Sensitive Professional”, in pharmacies and drugstores) helps. After cleaning with the pen, apply a special gel that closes the small dentine canals and paralyzes the transmission of stimuli.

4. Before, After

It is best to rinse your mouth thoroughly with water before brushing your teeth and only spit out the toothpaste after brushing (do not rinse). In this way, fluorides remain effective longer and prevent bacteria from multiplying. Some experts also advocate using dental floss only before brushing, so that any leftover food is not “worked into” small gum pockets by the brush.

5. Fluoride protects

Important difference: fluorine is a highly toxic gas. In conjunction with other substances such as sodium or calcium, fluoride is formed – and this trace element strengthens tooth enamel and fights caries bacteria. With normal dental hygiene, there is no risk of overdosing.

6. All white

If bleaching is not an option for you, you can also achieve whiter teeth in another way: so-called veneers are placed on the teeth as ultra-thin ceramic shells and even out small irregularities.

7. Sanding more gently

The RDA value indicates how much polishing agent a toothpaste contains – the higher, the more abrasive and the more damaging to the tooth surface. Therefore, do not use Superwhite pastes every day. Only a few manufacturers born the values known (e.g. “Pearls & Dents”, RDA 32, i.e. slightly abrasive, in pharmacies.

8. App Help

Put the smartphone on the holder on the bathroom mirror, connect the toothbrush (“Oral-B Genius 8000”, in specialist shops) to the app via Bluetooth and you will get feedback on the display as to whether you are cleaning everything correctly.

9. Naturally Effective

If you chew a clove when you have a toothache, you will quickly notice its pain-relieving effect. Many medicinal plants also contain anti-inflammatory ingredients. Extracts of chamomile, anise, lemon balm, sage or tea tree oil are therefore often found in products for dental hygiene (e.g. “Tebodont” products with tea tree oil, “Sage Mouthwash” from Dr. Hauschka Med, “Kamillosan Mouth and Throat Spray”. , all in pharmacies).
