Of course, we all want soft, well-groomed facial skin. And invest our good money in day cream, serum or sunscreen. So that you use your products in ideal doses: Here is a bit of set theory. We were advised by Dr. Birgit Kunze, dermatologist from Hamburg cleaning foam
The icing on
the cake The right amount – approx. 1 tsp full – is dosed at the touch of a button. The delicate cream that turns into a light, fluffy mousse or the firmer foam is emulsified with lukewarm water and gently massaged onto the face. Well suited for normal and combination skin.
Peeling
care swab: For the face, a fingertip or pea-sized amount is sufficient, which you spread gently in circular motions on the slightly moistened skin – avoid the eye area! Then rinse thoroughly. A peeling loosens dead skin cells and makes your complexion shine again. But please only once a week at most for normal skin and at most every two weeks for dry complexion.
Day cream
Just a snap: how much you need also depends on the consistency of the cream. As a rule, half a teaspoon or a two-cent amount is sufficient. If there is light protection in it, it can be a little more so that it can fully develop. In principle, the same amount applies to night creams. They often contain more fat – then you can take a tad less.
Eye cream
mini portion: These creams are amazingly long-lasting – a dab the size of a small pea is enough for both eyes. It is best to put it on the tip of the ring finger (it exerts the least pressure), dab on gently and massage in from the inside out. Although eye products do not contain creeping oils, contact lens wearers should not apply cream too close to the eyelid.
Mask
Lush application: With cream masks and packs, you can (knife back) apply thickly. About a walnut-sized portion. Tip for everyone who finds 1-serving masks in bags practical: There’s a lot in them. If you have anything left, apply cream to your neck, décolleté or hands. For normal to dry skin, apply to cleansed skin one to three times a week.
Brightening Concentrate
A little pearl: In contrast to creams against pigment spots, which are applied all over the face, brightening concentrates have to be dosed much more sparingly. They are only applied specifically to individual “spots” so as not to irritate the rest of the skin. A maximum pearl-sized amount is sufficient. Rule of thumb: If the serum is absorbed quickly, it was the right amount. If it lasts, you caught too much.
Serum
Just a drop: Sera contain much higher concentrations of active ingredients than creams, so use sparingly! They also have a gel-like to liquid consistency that quickly melts into the skin. A pea-sized drop is enough. Apply to cleansed face and under your usual care products. For stressed, dry or mature skin, it is best to use it as a cure for two to eight weeks. Or constantly. If you have sensitive skin, watch out for any irritation.
Sun cream
by the spoonful: it is supposed to protect the skin and prevent wrinkles. But the filters are only effective if the product is not skimpy. “2 mg sunscreen per square centimeter” is the formula for the right amount. That equates to about 5 grams or 1 teaspoon for the face. And about 35 grams or 7 tsp for the body. Since hardly anyone on the beach has a teaspoon with them: A hand-length strip of cream – from the tip of the middle finger to the wrist – will do.
Dose hair products
It mostly depends on the length, but often we need less than we think. Especially with styling products: too much and the most beautiful hairstyle effect is gone. Arnold Traub, premium hairdresser and owner of A & T hairdressers, Munich, knows the right dose
Shampoo
as small as a hazelnut: be careful if it just slips out of the bottle: a hazelnut-sized amount is enough. Concentrates are even more productive – even half is enough. Emulsify the shampoo with a little water in the palms of your hands and sweep from the head to the tips to distribute it evenly. If you don’t wash your hair that often, shampoo twice.
Treatment
as big as a walnut: For a hair pack you need an amount about the size of a walnut. It is best to apply it to damp, not soaking wet hair – and to particularly stressed lengths. Distribute with a wide-toothed comb. Ideal: let it soak in under a towel turban – the heat intensifies the effect. Use once a week on dry and colored hair.
Gel & Wax
Less is more: A fingertip-sized amount is enough. First distribute in the hands and then stroke over the hair. If you get too much, the hair quickly looks stringy. And it shouldn’t stick either. Top it off again for a bold wet look and wet-shiny effects.
Styling mousse
Concentrated load: To conjure up volume, you can go all out. Depending on the length of your hair, knead in a golf to tennis ball-sized amount of foam. It is best to scrunch up the lengths of damp (not soaking wet) hair and blow-dry it upside down.
Raindrop Shine Serum
: If you just want to add a highlight or tame unruly hair, two tiny dabs the size of a raindrop are enough. For the trendy smooth style with longer hair, a walnut-sized amount is okay. Rub between hands and apply first to the parting and the parts that fall on the face.
Conditioner
Variable size: Whether conditioner or color conditioner – depending on the hair length, add approx. 6-15 ml (approx. 0.5 to 1.5 tablespoons) to the hair. But not all at once, but work in the product in small portions, strand by strand – from the tips to the roots. A conditioner is recommended after every hair wash. But be sure to rinse it out thoroughly, otherwise it weighs down the hair.
