Coffee: It quickly becomes a calorie bomb

For many, coffee in the morning is a must to start the day. But when preparing the healthy pick-me-up you can do a few things wrong, so that it quickly becomes an unhealthy calorie bomb. So avoid these 3 mistakes.

The Germans love coffee . On average, everyone drinks about 150 liters a year. According to a British study , those who drink around three to four cups a day promote their health and have a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, some cancers and Parkinson’s disease. In addition, the caffeine it contains wakes you up and increases your alertness and ability to concentrate. But beware, these three preparation mistakes make coffee an unhealthy fattener.

This is how coffee becomes a calorie bomb

1. Too much milk

Black coffee tastes bitter and takes some getting used to for most people. That’s why many put a good dash of milk in the cup or prefer to drink a latte macchiato or cappuccino straight away. But the frothed milk hits your calorie count. A latte has around 66 calories, a cup of cappuccino has around 82 calories, an unsweetened latte macchiato has almost 170 calories – this makes coffee a small snack. Ideally, you should therefore rarely enjoy rich coffee drinks.

If you don’t want to do without milk in your coffee completely, you should only add a small sip. If you take cow’s milk, you should use low-fat milk. With plant milk, you should use a sugar-free or low-sugar variant.

2. Too much sugar

Do you like your coffee sweet and therefore sugar should not be missing in the cup? It’s no secret that sugar is an unhealthy fattening food. If you cannot do without the sweetness in your coffee overnight, you should gradually reduce the amount of sugar. Over time, our taste buds get used to the changed taste and soon you won’t be missing the sugar anymore.

3. Coffee to go

Those who only have little time in the morning like to get a coffee to go on the go. And there is a great temptation to treat yourself to an extra large flat white or caramel macchiato. However, the sweet and high-calorie hot drinks have little to do with the original. If you prefer to cook your coffee yourself at home, you not only save money, you also know what’s in it.
