Buy protective mask: These shops offer fabric masks

A mouth-nose mask offers security in addition to the hygiene regulations and contact regulations in current times. Since medical masks are sold out in many places, many shops and companies are now offering cotton fabric masks.

Since April, it has been mandatory in public to wear mouth and nose protection to protect strangers from infection. Both surgical masks and FFP masks are currently either sold out in pharmacies, cost a lot of money or are reserved for medical staff. The respirators made of fabric catch particles and viruses when breathing, speaking and coughing, but not as well as conventional protective masks such as FFP1, FFP2 or FFP3. In addition, they can simply be washed hot or boiled and are therefore reusable.

Instead of relying on disposable protective masks from the pharmacy, many people sew their own protective masks. Those who cannot sew or do not own a sewing machine will find what they are looking for in these shops .

Important : Cloth protective masks do not completely protect against infection!

Use and wash cloth masks correctly

  1. To put on the fabric mask, wash your hands and disinfect them if necessary.
  2. If your makeshift mask has elastic, place one over one ear, pull the fabric over the mouth and nose to the second ear, and secure the elastic behind the ear.
  3. For a mask with loose ties, hold the mask by your mouth and nose and tie the two ties behind your head.
  4. It is important that the mask fits snugly against the face so that no air and thus corona viruses can flow past the sides. That would minimize protection.
  5. After each use, remove the mask from your face so that both the inside and outside are not in contact with your face. Then wash your hands thoroughly.
  6. Allow the mask to air dry and do not store in a container. The corona virus could multiply faster there.
  7. Important: Everyone in every household should use their own mask!

Mask requirement also for children?

The mask requirement has been decided nationwide in Germany. But what about children? Whether children are included in the mask requirement is not uniformly regulated nationwide. In Saxony, for example, children have to wear a face mask just like adults. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, on the other hand, the mask requirement only applies to children from the age of six, in Bavaria from the age of seven.

Mouth and nose protection is provided for the way to school on the bus and other activities from elementary school onwards. However, the regular adult masks are often too big for smaller children, which is why masks especially for children make sense.

Buy protective masks for children

In the meantime, masks for children are often also offered in the shops where you can also get the normal protective masks. Two different sizes are usually available. However, there are also some companies that have focused specifically on the production of children’s masks.

Here you can buy protective masks for children:

  • The Schnullireich masks are made in Stuttgart from certified cotton. Especially cool: If desired, these can be personalized with names to prevent confusion at school. Pretty patterns and colors make the mouthguard really wearable! The masks from Schnullireich are available from around 10 euros each.
  • The underwear manufacturer Sanetta has also dedicated itself to the design of pretty, cheerful protective masks. Made in Europe there is a double pack for 16 euros . From cute prints to stylish patterns, everything is included.

Do mouthguards pose a choking hazard for children?

The rumor is currently circulating on social media that face masks are dangerous for children because they cannot breathe under the mouth and nose covers.
This claim is incorrect! The pediatrician Michael Achenbach told Bild : “I think you can usually give the all-clear.”
Suffocation is extremely unlikely because the protective masks are not made of plastic, but of breathable fabric.
