Basic tips to sleep better

Too little sleep is exhausting and unhealthy in the long run. Find out what causes your lack of sleep and how you can sleep better again here.

Insufficient sleep duration and sleep quality can trigger some complaints in everyday life. Therefore, it is important to find out what the cause of the lack of sleep could be, just in case. Is it the constant stress or could the restlessness at night be related to the wrong bed? If you sleep on the wrong mattress, you will quickly suffer from back or neck pain.

Rest and relaxation – the basics for restful nights

Some basics for restful sleep are very easy to observe:

  • Anything that relaxes is welcome!
  • A warm bath in the evening can have a balancing effect.
  • No more blue light from your smartphone or laptop about 30 minutes before you go to sleep.
  • Instead of an evening crime series, it’s better to use Sudoku or a novel.
  • A warm tea of chamomile or lavender has a calming effect. The best thing is about an hour before going to bed – otherwise your  bladder will be tight at night !
  • In the evening, do not eat anything flatulent or greasy that could weigh heavily on your stomach.

However, there can also be “technical” problems, which is why things won’t work out with peace of mind. Maybe the pillow is the wrong one? The slatted frame squeaks? Is the mattress sagging?

I don’t sleep well – what’s the reason?

Here, too, it is important to first find out the reason why you are not sleeping particularly well and to clarify any medical reasons.

The following list can then help to find out what conditions your bed and bedroom should have for a restful night. Where would you say yes, where would you say no?

  • I get cold quickly. I need it cozy and warm.
  • I sweat easily. I prefer to sleep with the window open.
  • I like to lie on a solid surface.
  • I prefer a soft pad and lots of pillows.
  • I am a stomach/back/side sleeper.

Sleep well with the right bed

Choosing the right bed is of course crucial for restful sleep. There are now numerous models to choose from. But whether it’s a conventional bed with slatted frame or futon, whether it’s an upholstered or box spring bed , it’s important that your bed is individually tailored to you. For example, someone who is taller and therefore heavier needs a different bed – in terms of size and mattress firmness – than someone who is smaller. In addition to the right mattress firmness, pillows and blankets should of course be individually adapted to your needs. For example, there are suitable pillows for side sleepers, particularly breathable blankets for those who tend to sweat, or particularly warm blankets for those who freeze quickly.

Box spring bed – the trend bed for restful nights

Box spring beds are undoubtedly in high demand when it comes to buying a new bed. The special thing about this bed model is the three-layer structure. Instead of a slatted frame, a lower box with a spring core carries the mattress and a topper is placed on top as the third layer. This double suspension promises greater point elasticity and is intended to support the body with pinpoint accuracy. With the topper, the lying comfort and the bed climate can be adapted a little more to your needs. But even with the box spring bed, it is crucial that it can be individually adjusted – i.e. that the right mattress and the right topper are chosen. If this is not the case, even such a luxury bed cannot guarantee a better night’s sleep.
