Mobile air conditioners
Benefits of Air Conditioners
- Easy installation: no structural changes need to be made and no special installer is required as with conventional air conditioning systems.
- Mobility : unlike fixed air conditioners, you can move them and use them in any room. They are so handy that they are even suitable for camping in tents and caravans.
- Inexpensive purchase: Mobile air conditioners are available from as little as 100 euros, while conventional air conditioners start at around 800 euros.
- Cooling Function : Dehumidify the room and cool it down. For allergy sufferers there are air conditioners with air filters.
Disadvantages of air conditioning
- Power Consumption : Air conditioners consume more power than fans when running continuously.
- Volume : Modern air conditioners have a minimum volume of 25 decibels. For comparison: The room volume is 50 decibels.
What should I look out for in a mobile air conditioner?
To find the right air conditioner, pay attention to energy efficiency class . The EU label provides information about power consumption. A class A air conditioner consumes around 11-15% less electricity than a class C air conditioner. Also pay attention to the volume of the device. It should not exceed 50 decibels (room volume). The desired cooling and dehumidification performance should also be adjustable. Modern devices adapt, for example, to cooling requirements and thus optimize their performance and power consumption. Useful additional functionsare, for example, a remote control, a timer, a programming function, adjustable air outlets, air filtration or a heat pump function. The latter is suitable for cooler summer days, as the air conditioning warms up.
fans
What fans are there?
- Desk fan : small, compact design, but limited range and performance
- Pedestal fan : larger than a table fan, with stand and rod for height adjustment, more power
- Tower fan : slim column-like shape, saves space, distributes the air evenly
- Floor fan : mostly non-swivel and legless, blowing air in one direction only
- Ceiling fan : placed on the ceiling, a large blade span and low speed make it very quiet with no drafts, making it ideal for the bedroom
Advantages of fans
- Cooling effect : The wind flow allows moisture on the skin to evaporate, which has a cooling effect on the body.
- Low costs : fans are available from a good 30 euros. With a kilowatt hour price of 25 cents, the power consumption is around two cents per hour.
- Volume : The average volume is around 40 decibels. This is a little quieter than a mobile air conditioner.
- Mobility : Fans can be easily set up anytime and anywhere.
- Use in winter : Use the fan even in winter. This allows air to flow to the ceiling, which displaces the warm air and distributes it better in the room.
Disadvantages of fans
- Weakening the immune system : In direct drafts, the airflow can cause dry eyes and skin , conjunctivitis, tiredness and a stiff neck over a long period of time. The cold air can also weaken the immune system.
- Dust and Pollen : People with allergies should be particularly careful with fans as they stir up dust and pollen which can then be inhaled and irritate the mucous membranes.
What should I watch out for with fans?
Fans with four instead of three can move the air strongly even at low power. Although they are a little more expensive to buy, they are cheaper to use. Also make sure that the blade guard can be removed so that you can easily clean the rotor blades. With a pedestal fan it is also important that it stands firmly.
