As a constant traveler, how do you make a home?
The couple: Tatjana Sprick, fashion consultant and company owner “Time to Tease” and Nicola Maria Bramante, gallery owner, curator
That’s what Tatjana says: “I’m on the road 200 days a year. As relaxing as I find it to be to have my own home again after a long time without an apartment, it binds me just as much: I lose some of my freedom. Our apartment is full of objects from my past and has to meet many needs, but above all it has to be a home for me. Because I realized that having a haven of peace becomes all the more important the more responsibility I carry. At the end of a three-week trip, I know: Home is the place where you can rediscover and live all facets of your own personality .”
This is what residential psychologist Barbara Perfahl says:“The apartment is very bright without being bare. It is almost sparsely furnished, but in a pleasant way. The hodgepodge of many individual parts results in a beautiful whole. Tatjana and Nicola travel a lot and have created an island of tranquility with their home – as a counterpoint to the outside world with its abundance of charms. Thanks to the white walls and the clear structures, the apartment does not seem restrictive, and it shows very well that coziness can also be created in other ways than with the colors red and orange or overcrowded rooms. The two achieve this with the many different materials: the floorboards, the sofas with furs and cushions on top. In this apartment there are only selected pieces. Old furniture with history, memorabilia from trips. That creates the emotional connection.”
In general, the home psychologist advises: “Marking out your territory is a basic human need, and you can only design your home yourself. But when you’re on the road most of the time, you risk losing touch with the place you call home. Because many people who are rarely at home do not attach much importance to furnishing and take furniture off the peg. It would be particularly important for travelers to choose special things. Only then can the apartment remain a focal point to which they emotionally bond.”
